Legal assistants within the Interior Alaska originally formed the Fairbanks Association of Legal Assistants (FALA) in 1985. By the early 1990’s, the struggling organization quietly faded away due to lack of interest and decreasing membership.

In the early part of 2002, Fairbanks Paralegals developed an interest in reorganizing FALA. Working with Ed Husted, UAF Paralegal program director, a steering committee was formed to guide in the formation of a new association. On September 13, 2002, the membership approved the bylaws of the new association by unanimous vote. Officers were elected and a Board of Directors was appointed.

FALA continues to grow today, enriching Fairbanks through membership commitment, Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs, and community involvement.
